So when once you’ve fed your heart with romance, where can you feed your appetite for real Roman food nearby? This is where The Roman Foodie comes in.
While it is unlikely you will find Rome’s most authentic restaurants surrounding the Trevi Fountain, there are a few hidden gems in this area. Obviously geared towards tourists with menus written in 5 different languages. If you can get past the aesthetic aspects of this zone driven by tourists, you can certainly find a few decent places in the area to grab lunch or a romantic dinner and here they are: Best Places to Eat Near the Trevi Fountain.
Pane e Salame
Appropriately and simply named, this rustic looking shop features exactly what it’s name describes; Breads and Cured Meats. Upon entering you’ll notice an industrial-chic look. Brick archways and glass chandelier will draw you in and they’re delicious, but simple dishes will keep you seated. If you are looking for a cool place to get a glass of wine and enjoy some mouth watering combinations of meats, cheese, vegetables, spreads and bread then go no further.
Address: Via di Santa Maria in Via 19 (100 yds/mts from trevi) | Hours: Mon-Sun 12:00pm-10:30pm | Phone: +39 06 679 1352 | Price: $ | RSVP: First come first served | Outdoor Seating: No Sorry!
Ristorante Sora Lucia
I feel like this restaurant was opened before the Trevi Fountain was built. Very old-school traditional. Looks like a whole in the wall because it is a whole in the wall. The best Roman restaurants never conform to demand. This place is open five days a week. Closed Sunday because it’s the holy day and Monday because restaurants in Rome are closed on Mondays. They serve typical dishes, wine by the carafe and it’s family owned and operated. What more could you want? Oh yea, it’s cheap!
Address: Via Della Panetteria, 12 | Hours: Tue-Sat 12:30pm-3:30pm & 6:30pm-11:00pm | Phone: +39 06 679 4078 | Price: $$ | RSVP: Reservations available online or by phone | Outdoor Seating: No Sorry!
Piccolo Arancio
If you are looking for dining “al fresco” and a warm Italian feel you should consider Piccolo Arancio. It has a few tables outside and larger dining inside. They make almost all their pasta in house and serve typical Italian – Mediterranean cuisine. Meats, fish and pasta all served in a nice atmosphere with great service. If you have a few extra euro to spare, think about “Linguine all’astice” which is pasta with lobster. So good.
If you get there close to opening time you should be able to secure a table outside, but in Rome you have to be understanding. Most small restaurants take reservations with a grain of salt since there are so many no-shows. Instead of getting mad, ask for a glass of wine while you wait!
Address: Vicolo Scanderberg, 112 | Hours: Tue-Sat 12:00pm-3:00pm & 7:00pm-12:am | Phone: +39 06 678 6139 | Price: $$ – $$$ | Web: www.piccoloarancio.it | RSVP: Reservations available online or by phone | Outdoor Seating: YES! Woohoo!
Trattoria Al Moro
Founded in the 1920s, this wood-paneled restaurant offers great Roman cuisine and a more extensive wine list. Dishes are excellent and well presented. Service standards are higher here and you will find outdoor seating. Their hours start later which proves they are geared towards feeding Romans, not tourists. Trattoria normally describes a very low-key inexpensive place to eat. This is more of a “Ristorante” type feel which is geared towards nicer more expensive dishes. Save this one for a nice night out with mouth-watering cuisine, not a quick bite to eat with the kids because this really is one of the best places to eat near the Trevi Fountain.
Address: Vicolo delle Bollette, 13 | Hours: Tue-Sat 1:00pm-3:30pm & 8:00pm-11:30pm | Phone: +39 06 678 3495 | Price: $$ – $$$ | Web: www.ristorantealmororoma.com | RSVP: Reservations available by phone | Outdoor Seating: YES! Woohoo!

Next thing we do is look on Trip Advisor, immediately filtering out all reviews with the exception of Italian reviews. Many tourists are comparing one tourist trap with another. 100% of Italians know the difference between good food and bad.
Food is most important to us, price/value is second, ambiance third and service last – service is not always a high priority for Italians, especially if they know their food does all the talking! This is how we crafted our post about the Best Places to Eat Near the Trevi Fountain.
